Work rule types

This table describes all of the available work rule types available in RMS. For details on the work rules and parameters, select the links in the Work rule type column or go to the corresponding page in the printed guide.

Work rule type Description

Benefit Accrual

Benefit Accrual work rules determine how and when an employee's benefits are accrued.

Benefit Expiration         

Benefit Expiration work rules allow you to determine when an employee's benefit accruals expire.

Close Pay Period

Close Pay Period work rules are run before a pay period is closed.

Daily Differential

Daily Differential work rules are configurable with a threshold and two factors, so single-time and double-time earnings for a holiday can be paid. 

Double Time Rate

Use Double Time Rate work rules to configure how employees are paid for double time hours.

Earning Rate

Earning Rate work rules determine the rate at which the earning is paid.

Employee Alerts

Employee Alerts work rules allow managers to determine what type of alerts they wish to have sent to their mobile device.

Employee Event

Employee Events are generated when Employee Points rules exceed the established parameters and trigger your progressive discipline program. These rules are part of Attendance Point Tracking, which is a process for recording and reporting attendance infractions. Employee Event work rules and Employee Points  work rules determine attendance infractions by comparing discrepancies between employee's schedules and their actual time worked.

Employee Points

Employee Points rules assess points to an employee when employee punches are outside of the established parameters. These rules are part of Attendance Point Tracking which is a process for recording and reporting attendance infractions. Employee Points work rules and Employee Event work rules determine attendance infractions by comparing discrepancies between employee's schedules and their actual time worked.

Holiday Eligibility

Holiday Eligibility work rules determine whether an employee is eligible for holiday pay.

Hours Distribution

Hours Distribution Work Rules manage how worked hours are "distributed" within the statutory or contractual limits, based on local laws or employee contracts. They are the rules that govern how Overtime, Double Time, and Bankable Contract Hours (not used in the United States of America) are classified and configured.

Meal Punch

The Meal Punch work rule type determines how and when an employee can meal punch.

Overtime Rate

Use Overtime Rate work rules to configure how employees are paid for overtime hours.

Post-Calculation

Post-Calculation work rules are miscellaneous rules that are run after hours and rate calculations are completed.

Post Punch

Post Punch work rules allows you to ask an employee a question on the Time Clock after they punch in, and based on the employee's response, add an earning if appropriate.

Punch Rounding

Punch Rounding determines how values are rounded during calculations.

Punch Validation

Use Punch Validation work rules to select criteria for when in or out Time Clock punches are accepted or rejected based on employees' schedules. With these work rules, you can specify time frames for when employees are locked out of the Time Clock and when they receive warning notifications on the Time Clock screens.

Reconcile Employee Post-Processing

The Reconcile Employee Post-Processing work rule type is a set of miscellaneous rules that are run after the Reconcile Employee process is complete.

Regular Rate

Regular Rate work rules determine the rate of pay at which regular hours are paid.

Schedule Label

Schedule Label work rules enable labels on the Scheduling and Timeline Scheduling screens to update when employee schedules are recalculated.

Schedule Label Addendum

Use the Schedule Label Addendum work rule type to add counts to labels that appear on the Scheduling screen.

Schedule Lunch

The Schedule Lunch work rule type provides flexibility in determining how employees' shifts should be adjusted for a lunch breaks.

Schedule Restriction

Use Schedule Restriction work rules to apply hours restrictions to employees.

Shift Adjustment

Shift Adjustment work rules allow you to make adjustment to employee shifts.

Shift Correction

Shift Correction work rules make corrections to employee shifts that have errors.

Shift Difference OT

Shift Difference OT determines the overtime (OT) that employees receive if the time between their consecutive shifts is less than 10 hours.

Shift Differential

Shift Differential work rules allow you to add "extra" pay for hours worked between an established Start Time and End Time.

Time Off Earning

The Time Off Earning work rule type creates an earning for hours specified in the time off request distribution.

Time Off Earning Distribution

The Time Off Earning Distribution work rule type determines how and when Time Off Earnings are distributed.

Weekly Differential

Weekly Differential work rules allow you to add "extra" pay based on weekly hours worked. Earnings are fixed dollar amounts paid for time worked during the time range.
